In celebration of the release of the sixth Harry Potter movie, I give you my latest pencil drawing! It is not based entirely on the sixth movie but is largely inspired by it. It's a little different than my usual. I desired to show in contrasting fashion Harry's most loyal friends, and those who make his life difficult.

Though a book fan first and foremost I'm delighted with the movie castings (something I cannot say for other book-based movies). As such I was happy to draw the actors in their roles. Still, I never thought of this as just a "movie" drawing, so if the characters don't look right I prefer you to think of it as artistic license rather then artistic inability. The detail of the smaller characters was difficult and not something I had attempted previously. Harry was far and away the easiest part of this picture and ironically the best (in my opinion).

Enough talking. The picture is supposed to do that. I'm just very happy and excited with how this turned out, because I've been working on it for over a month and it is such a sweet relief to finish. It isn't perfect, but it's complete.

Time spent: between 50 and 75 hours. Yeah, really that much. I totally and utterly lost count. A lot of that time was spent designing/brainstorming. A lot more was spent shading folds in cloaks and clothes.

Strathmore Bristol Smooth 400 paper: size 14x17" (actual size 11x15")

I used every pencil at my disposal, and I used them a lot. Implements utilized:

2H, HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, and 8B - Tombow and Staedtler.
.5mm 2B mechanical.
Blending stumps.
Scotties Supreme tissues, and finger.
General's kneadable erasers (latex free, smell nice).
Tuff Stuff eraser sticks (indispensable).

I had to take the picture with a camera, and despite my best efforts I could not improve the quality. It's still much, much better on paper.
